Secondo il New York Daily News, gli Unlocking The Truth — heavy metal band di Brooklyn con i tredicenni Malcolm Brickhouse (chitarrista) ed Alec Atkins (bassista) ed il batterista dodicenne Jarad Dawkins — hanno firmato un deal per due album con Sony. Il gruppo ha comunicato che riceverà 60.000 dollari per registrare il primo CD e circa 325.000 per il secondo CD. Sony ha inoltre un’opzione per pubblicare altri quattro album degli Unlocking The Truth per un investimento totale di 1,7 milioni di dollari (325.000 per il secondo album, 400.000 per il terzo, 450.000 per il quarto e 550.000 per il quinto). Si noti, tuttavia, che la band otterrà del denaro solo se il loro album di debutto venderà più di 250.000 copie, una prospettiva che sembra altamente improbabile in un’epoca di vendite in diminuzione.
Paolo Gregoletto ha commentato questa notizia scrivendo su Facebook:
“The young kids that were signed got a $60,000 recording budget for their first album and have to sell 250,000 copies to receive royalties. That isn’t a 1.7 million-dollar recording deal. I hope that they got a good lawyer and someone looking out for them.”
Tabatha Dawkins, madre di Jarad Dawkins, ha dichiarato:
“It’s so exciting. We’re jumping over the moon, what started out as play dates went to Times Square and now this. It’s been one great thing after another.”
