The Vulvarines Ditte, Sofie, Signe with Florent & Rasmus are in town and making a loud impact!

The brazen punk energy ignites the Scandinavian black metal rhythms beaten out by Rasmus. Rebellion of social protest finds its expression in the heavy distorted guitars of Signe and Sofie, while Ditte’s growling scratches relentlessly.

2024 was the year the Vulvatorius exploded, with their debut album (S/T) in March and many concerts: Copenhell, Roskilde, opening for Soulfly, and numerous local shows.

Undoubtedly, their debut album was a remarkable surprise for its production quality and musical skills. After all, Lasse Ballade is one of the best producers in town and has an eye for talent. Yet the piece that truly confirmed that this group will make a mark was witnessing their live show at Copenhell: the conviction with which the songs are performed, their ability to own their style, and consistency with musical themes.

Vulvatorius S/T

The Vulvatorius are not just the little sisters of Konvent dabbling with punk; but a specific and defined band developing their musical style through experimentation. This has also been noticed in their live performances. The latest shows feature Ditte completely in tune with her character and capable of using her stage presence to best support the message in her music. She is the sincere and credible symbol of what she sings.

The album is available on vinyl, CD, and digital at:

Vulvatorius – S/T

Interview Live with Ditte

We meet at Tjili Pop, relax with a bit of Hygge in Nørrebro style, we obviously tackle the elephant in the room discussing Ditte’s nails art by Las Vegas Nails, and are ready to start our chat.

Notes

Signe and Ditte founded the group after meeting at a Konvent concert, which we previously reviewed and where we interviewed guitarist Sophie “Suǒ Fēi”. This band is their primary musical influence. Other influences include the feminist punk of Bikini Kill and the black metal of Behemoth.

The Album

The production of their debut album was supported by the Koda Fondet, which promotes inclusivity in musical projects. It took place at Lasse Ballade Studios in Nørrebro, which supports many local alternative artists, including Night Fever, whom we recently interviewed. Distribution is handled by Bad Morning Records of Niels Ole Nørgaard.

We comment on the cover image by underwater photographer Yosuke Tanaka, who photographed the giant squid in the sea of Japan.

The Themes

Talking about “Mormor Sang,” we briefly comment on the abortion law in Nordic countries, which still has differences and limitations in various countries (link).

“Fuck You Incel” is perhaps one of the most caustic songs by Vulvatorius; it is aggressive but primarily aims to condemn the misogyny generated by frustration. As Ditte’s words reveal, it is not meant to incite hatred towards specific individuals or groups of people, but rather to express disdain for the toxic behaviors that sometimes arise in contexts of compromised sociality. No individual deserves hate and violence, but one must not remain passive towards the contexts that generate them.

The Live shows

Commenting on their live shows, we refer to Copenhell 2024 reviewed HERE. Other notable performances include Roskilde 2024 and opening for Soulfly at Pumpehuset. Regarding the Copenhell 2024 show, we mention Andreas from Plagumace‘s contribution during the performance.

We conclude with a brief snippet from Vulvatorius’ “pop-up” concert at Vesterbro at Lövendahl‘s metal & tattoo shop.
